At the Junior PLAYERS, played at TPC Sawgrass, the type of grass was a massive factor in the performance of players. To analyze this, Junior Golf Nerd utilized artificial intelligence data tools to retrieve information on the typical type of grass on golf courses in each player's hometown, and then sorting players into their respective grass type categories.
The Stadium Course is mainly consisted of Tifeagle Bermudagrass, which is notorious for its amount of grain. This grain can sometimes be difficult to navigate, especially for players who are not used to it. This gave players from Southern regions who typically practiced on Bermuda a significant advantage, as they had a mean performance of -4.195 strokes. Likewise, players from the Pacific Northwest and Northeastern regions that are used to bentgrass were met with significan difficulties on Bermuda, as they were only able to average a performance of -1.079 strokes. Surprisingly, players in the "other" category of grass type did surprisingly well, averaging a performance of -8.202. These players, playing on Zoysia, Kentucky Bluegrass, or other types of grass seem to have a high level of adaptability to new grass types, as the type of grass they practice on are not as common compared to Bentgrass and Bermuda.
