Mean Performance metrics from the AJGA PING Invitational, broken down by region.
The 2024 AJGA PING Invitational was held at The Saticoy Club is California. This track featured difficult fairways and especially challenging greens, with severe undulation and lightning speeds, which saw a lot of players struggle. As we break down the performance of players relative to their JGS Scoring differential, we can see that international players, primarily from Canada, are coming out with a significantly better performance. This should come as a surprise, as the Canadian golf season has been nearing a close due to the cold weather and training becomes limited. The West and Southeast regions were both relatively mediocre, but is also comes at a surprise that the South region performed extremely poorly, with a mean performance of +6.57 strokes. Generally one of the strongest regions in junior golf, it is unusual to see such a poor performance from players in the South, mainly from Texas, but this could also potentially be attributed to their strong scoring differentials, which are hard to consistently outperform. One last glaring trend is the abscence of Northeast players from this field. With the less than ideal training situations, the Northeast produces less elite junior golfers, making it difficult for many of them to gain access to the small field of the PING Invitational.
